It's been 20 years since I started Black Badger!
In 2006 I started this little company with the aim of creating fun little objects that had no other job other than to make us smile a bit. Jump ahead 20 years and Black Badger is now a highly innovative contributor to the Swiss watch industry and a respected design brand.
This ring pulls together all the things I love best about Black Badger. Material innovation, craftsmanship and always a bit of a wink.
My vision for this piece was to be the most industrial, bordering on dystopian, piece of jewelry I could create. Over the course of discussions with a friend who works in film effects and concept art, the idea was born.
I envisioned some distant mining facility on some distant planet. Maybe the ring was issued to you by your contract holder. Who knows? But definitely a "we live in the future but the future sucks" kind of vibe.
The 20th anniversary ring has an interior of ceramic microbead-blasted Zirc and an outer of Bluetongue® Damascus steel (manufactured by Damasteel AB). The Damascus outer has been acid etched and then re-chamfered so only a cryptic barcode effect appears around the perimeter.
Flanking channels of bright green Swiss Super-LumiNova® give the ring a feeling of futuristic industrialism. Because the future glows green of course.
